Welcome to the new Peggy Angel

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference. Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do. Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.

Causes of Cellulite

The causes of cellulite include changes in metabolism, physiology, dieting too hard or too much, sex-specific dimorphic skin architecture, alteration of connective tissue structure, hormonal factors, genetic factors, the microcirculatory system, the extracellular matrix, and subtle inflammatory alterations. HORMONAL FACTORS Hormones play a dominant role in the formation of cellulite. Estrogen may be the important hormone to initiate and aggravate cellulite. However, there has been no reliable clinical evidence to support such a claim. Other hormones, including insulin, the catecholamines adrenaline and noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin, are all believed to participate in the development of cellulite. GENETIC FACTORS There is a genetic element in individual susceptibility to cellulite. Researchers led by Enzo Emanuele have traced the genetic component of cellulite to particular polymorphisms in the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) and hypoxia-inducible factor 1A (HIF1a) genes. PREDISPOSING FACTORS Several factors have been shown to affect the development of cellulite. Sex, race, biotype, distribution of subcutaneous fat, and predisposition to lymphatic and circulatory insufficiency have all been shown to contribute to cellulite. LIFESTYLE A high-stress lifestyle will cause an increase in the level of catecholamines, which have also been associated with the evolution of cellulite. Certain dieting practices can also diminish the level of these chemicals, and decreasing body fat typically results in the reduction in appearance of cellulite.

Chronic Stress

Signs of Stress Chronic stress is defined as a “state of prolonged tension from internal or external stressors, which may cause various physical manifestations – e.g., asthma, back pain, arrhythmias, fatigue, headaches, HTN, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers, and suppress the immune system”. Chronic stress takes a more significant toll on your body than acute stress does. It can raise blood pressure, increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, increase vulnerability to anxiety and depression, contribute to infertility, and hasten the aging process. For example, results of one study demonstrated that individuals who reported relationship conflict lasting one month or longer have a greater risk of developing illness and show slower wound healing. Similarly, the effects that acute stressors have on the immune system may be increased when there is perceived stress and/or anxiety due to other events. For example, students who are taking exams show weaker immune responses if they also report stress due to daily hassles. While responses to acute stressors typically do not impose a health burden on young, healthy individuals, chronic stress in older or unhealthy individuals may have long-term effects that are detrimental to health. SIGNS OF STRESS – may be COGNITIVE, EMOTIONAL, PHYSICAL or BEHAVIORAL. COGNITIVE SYMPTOMS Memory problems Inability to concentrate Poor judgment Pessimistic approach or thoughts Anxious or racing thoughts Constant worrying EMOTIONAL SYMPTOMS Moodiness Irritability or short temper Agitation, inability to relax Feeling overwhelmed Sense of loneliness and isolation Depression or general unhappiness PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS Aches and pains Diarrhea or constipation Increased frequency of urination Indigestion Changes in blood glucose Nausea, dizziness Chest pain, rapid heartbeat Loss of sex drive Frequent colds Irregular periods BEHAVIORAL SYMPTOMS Eating more or less Sleeping too much or too little Isolating oneself from others Procrastinating or neglecting responsibilities Using alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs to relax Nervous habits (e.g. nail biting, pacing)

Colon Health

The Road to Health is Paved with Good Intestines I know the intestines are not a subject we, in the modern world, like to discuss. However, please bear with me as I provide you with some “seeds of knowledge” that will not only help to prevent disease, but that are also changing the lives of millions of people and restoring health to those with disorders such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, multiple allergic response syndrome, lupus, irritable bowel, Crohn’s disease and yes, even cancer. The large intestine (also known as the colon) is a hollow tube-like organ of approximately 5 to 5 1/2 feet in length. It is made up of pockets called sacculations, medically known as haustrae. In this tube are trillions of cells associated with the human body, 90 percent of which are bacteria microflora microorganisms living in the large intestine. It is now universally accepted that autointoxication, a condition meaning the body is poisoning itself, is the underlying cause of an alarmingly large percentage of degenerative disorders and complex diseases. The inner lining of the colon consists of extremely sensitive nerves and glands that provide an important function in the final stages of digestion and assimilation of foods. These same nerves and glands help to eliminate wastes from the system, a sort of human garbage disposal. In addition, the blood eliminates many of its wastes through the colonic walls. Researchers in degenerative diseases and professionals trained in colon hydrotherapy have shown that extra body weight can be attributed to the waste accumulation that lies within the 60,000 miles that make up the blood vessels, lymphatic system, bones, joints and soft and connective tissues. Much of this accumulated waste can take up “housekeeping” in the colonic pockets (sacculations) because of the structural makeup of the colon. Over decades, this “packed-in” waste can accumulate as much as 30 to 50 lbs of fecal waste. When the body becomes overwhelmed with toxins it can’t handle, it becomes a raging fire on a path of self destruction; this is where colon health computes into the health equation. Colon cleansing can be accomplished by three major methods: colon irrigation through hydrotherapy, exercise, and a better diet high in fiber and vegetables aid in the removal and elimination of colonic plaque. To aid in the process of regaining your colon health, natural herbal remedies are often used. Death Begins in the Colon The colon is a sewage system, but by neglect and abuse it becomes a cesspool. When it is clean and normal, we are well and happy. Let it stagnate and it will distill the poisons of decay, fermentation, and putrefaction into the blood, poisoning the brain and nervous system so that we become mentally depressed and irritable; it will poison the heart so that we are weak and listless; poison the lungs so that the breath is foul; poison the digestive organs so we are distressed and bloated; and poison the blood so the skin is sallow and unhealthy. In short, every organ of the body is poisoned, and we age prematurely; look and feel old, the joints are stiff and painful, neuritis, full eyes, and a sluggish brain overtake us, and the pleasure of living is gone. This statement was made by Dr. Bernard Jensen, 1974.

Alkaline Foods

To achieve the acid/alkaline balance in the body we should consume a 80/20 mix of alkaline/acid foods.Another method to help alkalize your body is to drink alkaline water. Examples of alkaline foods VEGETABLES:Wheatgrass, alfalfa, barley, grass, asparagus, broccoli, beet, celery, carrot, cauliflower, cucumber, garlic, mushrooms, sprouted pulses, onion, eggplant, lettuce, peas, pepper, pumpkin, etc. FRUITS:Apple, apricot, avocado, banana, cherries, grapes, grape fruit, watermelon, peach, pear, pineapple, orange, lemon, tomato, etc. PROTEINS:Almonds, chestnuts, chicken breast, eggs, flaxseeds, whey protein, yoghurt, cottage cheese, etc. SPICES:Chilies, pepper, cinnamon, ginger, mustard, etc. OTHERS:Apple cider vinegar, bee pollen, green tea, ginseng tea, herbal tea, etc. ALKALINE WATER:This type of water has a higher pH level than does tap water. Some proponents say that alkaline water can neutralize acid in your bloodstream, boost your energy level and metabolism, and help your body absorb nutrients more effectively. Others say that alkaline water can help you resist disease and slow the aging process. Examples of acid foods ACIDIC FOODS:Include red meat, fish, lobsters, turkey, olive oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, corn oil, white bread, rice, cashew nuts peanuts, soya beans, butter, soy milk, black beans, kidney beans, beer, hard liquor, wine, etc. Please note that in the end, it is important that you do your own research to verify, to yourself, the type of diet that would be best for you. Others can suggest, yet being an informed consumer will allow you to make better decisions.

Benefits of an Alkaline Diet

Keeping yourself ALKALINE is your first defense in fighting any disease. The proper diet can create a major impact in balancing the body’s PH. Affecting the ph balance of our bodies, the consumption of foods that are alkaline, acid or neutral has been shown to affect how the body operates, disease fighting properties, energy levels, weight management and even skeletal health. An alkaline diet includes the consumption of foods and beverages that help create more balanced ph levels within the body, therefore promoting healthy function and lifestyle. Understanding which foods to eat for a more balanced ph for the body can be a simple as researching alkaline food lists and understanding the foods that one consumes. Aiming for a ph balance of at least 7 is optimal. While a balance of one’s ph levels should be sought, the body is better suited for higher alkaline levels than higher levels of acidity. When the ph level of the body is interrupted, it may not function at an optimum level, making the close consideration of a diet that promotes a balanced level a vital piece of overall health and wellness. Most people have very acidic levels within the body as a result of consuming a largely acidic diet. Consuming alkaline foods can help create more balanced ph levels, therefore, preventing health issues and promoting wellness. Neutralizing the energy in cells an alkaline diet can spark weight loss and boost energy levels while providing increased mental clarity and detoxifying the body. In addition to be vital for maintaining a healthy Ph level in the body, acidic and alkaline foods can also be beneficial for certain health problems. In fact, alkaline foods actually have their own diet known as the “Alkaline diet” that is believed to help increase energy, jump start weight loss, promote strong teeth and bones, have anti-aging effects, and even help with preventing certain brain disorders and physical diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and asthma. Acidic foods are also believed to help the body obtain essential vitamins and minerals that can aid in digestion and help with weight loss. When monitoring your intake of acidic and alkaline foods, it’s important to take into consideration that no two individuals are the same and what may be the right intake of acidic and alkaline foods for someone else may not be right for you. Foods and drinks that may have been formally seen as acceptable additions to one’s diet may gain a new light when viewed through the eyes of gaining a more balanced ph level within the body. Because of the physical wellness and healthy benefits accompanying balanced ph levels, understanding the types of foods and drinks one should avoid and seek can be a vital tool for gaining a healthier and more energetic lifestyle.

10 Reasons to Avoid GMOs – Genetically Modified Organisms

Please note: Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are in more than 75% of the foods on America’s supermarket shelves and restaurant menus. A GMO (genetically modified organism) is the result of a laboratory process of taking genes from one species and inserting them into another in an attempt to obtain a desired trait or characteristic, hence they are also known as transgenic organisms. This process may be called either Genetic Engineering (GE) or Genetic Modification (GM); they are one and the same. 1. GMOs are unhealthy. The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) urges doctors to prescribe non-GMO diets for all patients. They cite animal studies showing organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system disorders, accelerated aging, and infertility. Human studies show how genetically modified (GM) food can leave material behind inside us, possibly causing long-term problems. Genes inserted into GM soy, for example, can transfer into the DNA of bacteria living inside us, and that the toxic insecticide produced by GM corn was found in the blood of pregnant women and their unborn fetuses. Numerous health problems increased after GMOs were introduced in 1996. The percentage of Americans with three or more chronic illnesses jumped from 7% to 13% in just 9 years; food allergies skyrocketed, and disorders such as autism, reproductive disorders, digestive problems, and others are on the rise. Although there is not sufficient research to confirm that GMOs are a contributing factor, doctors groups such as the AAEM tell us not to wait before we start protecting ourselves, and especially our children who are most at risk. The American Public Health Association and American Nurses Association are among many medical groups that condemn the use of GM bovine growth hormone, because the milk from treated cows has more of the hormone IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor 1)?which is linked to cancer. 2. GMOs contaminate forever. GMOs cross pollinate and their seeds can travel. It is impossible to fully clean up our contaminated gene pool. Self-propagating GMO pollution will outlast the effects of global warming and nuclear waste. The potential impact is huge, threatening the health of future generations. GMO contamination has also caused economic losses for organic and non-GMO farmers who often struggle to keep their crops pure. 3. GMOs increase herbicide use. Most GM crops are engineered to be “herbicide tolerant”?they deadly weed killer. Monsanto, for example, sells Roundup Ready crops, designed to survive applications of their Roundup herbicide. Between 1996 and 2008, US farmers sprayed an extra 383 million pounds of herbicide on GMOs. Overuse of Roundup results in “superweeds,” resistant to the herbicide. This is causing farmers to use even more toxic herbicides every year. Not only does this create environmental harm, GM foods contain higher residues of toxic herbicides. Roundup, for example, is linked with sterility, hormone disruption, birth defects, and cancer. 4. Genetic engineering creates dangerous side effects. By mixing genes from totally unrelated species, genetic engineering unleashes a host of unpredictable side effects. Moreover, irrespective of the type of genes that are inserted, the very process of creating a GM plant can result in massive collateral damage that produces new toxins, allergens, carcinogens, and nutritional deficiencies. 5. Government oversight is dangerously lax. Most of the health and environmental risks of GMOs are ignored by governments’ superficial regulations and safety assessments. The reason for this tragedy is largely political. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), for example, doesn’t require a single safety study, does not mandate labeling of GMOs, and allows companies to put their GM foods onto the market without even notifying the agency. Their justification was the claim that they had no information showing that GM foods were substantially different. But this was a lie. Secret agency memos made public by a lawsuit show that the overwhelming consensus even among the FDA’s own scientists was that GMOs can create unpredictable, hard-to-detect side effects. They urged long-term safety studies. But the White House had instructed the FDA to promote biotechnology, and the agency official in charge of policy was Michael Taylor, Monsanto’s former attorney, later their vice president. He’s now the US Food Safety Czar. 6. The biotech industry uses “tobacco science” to claim product safety. Biotech companies like Monsanto told us that Agent Orange, PCBs, and DDT were safe. They are now using the same type of superficial, rigged research to try and convince us that GMOs are safe. Independent scientists, however, have caught the spin-masters red-handed, demonstrating without doubt how industry-funded research is designed to avoid finding problems, and how adverse findings are distorted or denied. 7. Independent research and reporting is attacked and suppressed. Scientists who discover problems with GMOs have been attacked, gagged, fired, threatened, and denied funding. The journal Nature acknowledged that a “large block of scientists . . . denigrate research by other legitimate scientists in a knee-jerk, partisan, emotional way that is not helpful in advancing knowledge.” Attempts by media to expose problems are also often censored. 8. GMOs harm the environment. GM crops and their associated herbicides can harm birds, insects, amphibians, marine ecosystems, and soil organisms. They reduce bio-diversity, pollute water resources, and are unsustainable. For example, GM crops are eliminating habitat for monarch butterflies, whose populations are down 50% in the US. Roundup herbicide has been shown to cause birth defects in amphibians, embryonic deaths and endocrine disruptions, and organ damage in animals even at very low doses. GM canola has been found growing wild in North Dakota and California, threatening to pass on its herbicide tolerant genes on to weeds. 9. GMOs do not increase yields, and work against feeding a hungry world. Whereas sustainable non-GMO agricultural methods used in developing countries have conclusively resulted in yield increases of 79% and higher, GMOs do not, on average, increase yields at all. This was evident in the Union of Concerned Scientists’ 2009 report Failure to Yield?the definitive study to date on GM crops and yield. The International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD) report, authored by more than
